99% Commercial Rate! Trump’s tariff algorithm triggers heavier work on this French island, critics call it “crazy”

A remote French island with almost 6,000 residents has just become the most tariff place on Earth, thanks to what critics call a “strange” commercial formula of the White House.

St. Pierre et Miquelon, a French territory abroad on the Canada coast, is now facing a 99% rate in his exports to the United States, according to Australian political activist Drew Pavlou, who marked the figure in X.

“French territory abroad St. Pierre et Miquelon (population 5,800) now has the highest rates in the world at 99%,” Pavlou wrote. “ Their exports are valued at only $ 3.5 million a year. I suppose what happened here is that they probably export a tiny amount (such as 100 K for grasshoppers) in America, regardless of anything in return. So the Algorithm of the White House Insane (Commercial Deficit/Import) would have produced this insane 99% of rate. So incredibly stupid, incompetent and insens.

The eye water rate follows the announcement of the reciprocal rates of President Donald Trump of reciprocal rates, part of his promise to reign the manufacture of the United States and fight commercial imbalances. Trump called the moment “Liberation Day”, declaring, “on April 2, 2025 it will be forever remembered as the day that the North -American industry was reborn … and the day we started to make the United States rich again.”

While most countries will face a new 10%reference line, about 60 “worse criminals” had custom rates. India got a 26%”discount” duty. China and Cambodia were affected by 54% and 49%, respectively. But the 99% rate of St. Pierre et Miquelon has raised his eyebrows for his pure disproportion.

Reactions on social media went from their strategic condition. Trump has put 10% of rates in the Islands of Mayotte and Martinica and 73% massive in Réunion, without realizing that these islands are part of 100% of France! “A user wrote.

Another user argued: “Lol is the same as Penguin Island here friend, and is not stupid or foolish. France could use it as a work to avoid rates … so there are no safe rates parades.”

A third added: “It shows the goal is to create chaos that does not solve commercial imbalances. The chaos provides ultra endless opportunities. Especially with AI advisers who help them look for them.”

The movement has left many questions the logic – and the algorithm – that led to the last trade policy of Trump. For now, the small island that exports the lobster has become an unlikely child in a world economic jolt.
