What began as a minor knee theme became an unexpected revelation for Bengaluru CEO Deepak Shenoy. Jumping his regular walk at work, the founder of Citizensmind chose to take a quick tour of a state bus and stunned to find that the rate was only Rs.

In a now -viral publication of X (before Twitter), Shenoy wrote: “Today I took a bus for Rs 6 and walked 30 minutes to the office. I am still halted that there is something that costs 6 Rs”, adding that the bus also had a UPI QR scanner installed.

In a follow -up post, he clarified that he regularly uses public transport, including air conditioning buses and the subway. However, this short 1 kilometer trip was a necessity, not a habit. “I take public transport all the time: bus/C rates are usually higher, and so are the subway rates. And usually I just walk to short distances, this was a jump of 1 km due to a rough knee, but I still surprised me to be so cheap,” he wrote.

Shenoy’s brief post made an agreement on social networks, drawing attention to the greatest conversation about accessibility and infrastructure in the Indian public transport system.

Several users applauded the value and accessibility of state services. “Good things don’t always cost too much,” said a user. Reflecting on the same emotion, another user said, “Lord, get decent food in the Amma canteen for 6 Rupees!”

Others emphasized the potential of the system. “Public transport, if promoted well, can transform the way Indians switch. Safety, reliability and accessibility are three key aspects of any successful public transport system. Delhi Metro has been able to stand out in all parameters,” said a user.

Another user mocked: “In Bengaluru, we still arrive faster walking instead of taking a bus!”

A second user said, “That € 6 was not only a walk, but also offered you a free daily walk training.”

While Shenoy’s surprise was rooted in the cost, the answers that triggered deeper problems: how the city’s infrastructure is financed, which serves the best and more urban travelers will adopt it as a practical choice rather than as a fall.
