Rob Gronkowski seems to be interested in new england patriots Jerod Mayo, in his first season as head coach, was fired after Sunday’s win over the Buffalo Bills.

Mayo employed Last year, he replaced Bill Belichick after the legendary head coach and the team parted ways after six Super Bowls and two dynasties.

The Patriots struggled in Mayo’s first season, finishing with a 4-13 record. But Gronkowski said he doesn’t think Mayo will have enough time to develop as a head coach.

“I was shocked by it. What happened very quickly shocked a lot of people,” he said on Fox News. “Especially around the desk, I think we were all surprised by that. I thought it was unfair to coach Jerrold Mayo. He never had an opportunity to develop as a head coach.

“He’s just a rookie in that department himself. If you judge a coach by his first year, that’s really inappropriate.”

Mayo and Gronkowski were teammates with the Patriots for several years.

The Patriots were far from playoff contenders entering this season. New England drafts rookie quarterback Derek Meyer In the first round, he didn’t start until a few weeks into the regular season.

New England ranks 30th in points scored, 31st in yards gained, and 22nd in points scored and yards lost.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft announced Mayo’s decision after the Patriots’ win.

“After the game I informed Jarrod Mayo that he would not be returning as the head coach of the New England Patriots in 2025. For me personally, this was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made,” Clough Te said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the trajectory of our team’s performance throughout the season hasn’t gone up as much as I would have liked.”
