Aston Martin has appointed Andy Cowell as team principal after demoting Mike Krack in an organizational reshuffle.
Former Mercedes engine guru Cowell joined the team as group chief executive last October but has now also been appointed team principal.
Clark, who has been Aston Martin team principal since 2022, will become chief track officer as part of changes to split the aerodynamics, engineering and performance departments into separate track and campus operations divisions .
Aston Martin, which will move into its new Silverstone campus in 2023, said the changes were for “greater leadership clarity and part of a shift to a flatter structure” and to help deliver on its “mission to become a championship-winning team”.
“I have been understanding and evaluating our performance over the past three months and I have been incredibly impressed by the dedication, commitment and hard work of this team,” who helped Mercedes win their eighth consecutive win Said Cowell, the mastermind behind the Constructors’ Championship’s engine. Aston Martin’s statement made no mention of legendary designer Adrian Newey, who joined the team as technical managing partner in March after leaving Red Bull.
A statement from the team said: “The AMR Technology Campus team will be led by the team’s new Chief Technology Officer Enrico Cardile, and the team can now focus 100% of its time on creating competitive ingenuity challenges for new events. Enrico will oversee Architecture, design and construction of new racing cars.”
Tom McCullough, who previously led track operations as performance director, will continue in a “group leadership role, playing a key role in expanding the team’s wider racing categories”.
The changes follow Aston Martin’s encouraging 2023 results, followed by a setback in 2024. Although Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll finished fifth in both seasons of the Constructors’ Championship, their points total dropped from 280 to 94 points.

Aston Martin have made no secret of their hopes of becoming a championship challenger, especially when a new generation of engines and design regulations are introduced to the sport in 2026.
The team has reached an agreement to have its engines built by current Red Bull supplier Honda rather than Mercedes.
