Ahead of the FA Cup clash, the sickness bug caused a stir

Crystal Palace could be missing a number of players for the FA Cup third round tie against Stockport this week after a major illness swept around the squad.

Manager Oliver Glasner says Mota has prevented several players from training and admits he does not know who will be available for Sunday’s game.

“We had a lot of sick players this week, or a lot of question marks,” Glassner said in a press conference.

“Until today (Friday), Jean-Philippe Mateta, Maxence Lacroix and Tyrique Michel did not train. Caleb Kaporha trained for the first time today but Dean Henderson went home sick today.

“It could be that one or two come back tomorrow, but if you’ve been in your bed with a fever for almost a whole week, of course, you might not be available to start, so there are still a lot of question marks.

“But all the healthy players made it very easy for us as we had one of our best training weeks for months, even with the small numbers.

“I’m really happy with how the training sessions went, and it gives me a good feeling for this three-game week coming up.”

Palace team news

Palace midfielder Will Hughes is a major doubt with a foot injury while Adam Wharton is recovering from surgery to repair problems affecting his hip and groin.

“Adam is improving but still a long way from training with the team, but he’s getting better,” Glasner said.

“I can’t tell you if it will take two weeks or three or four, but it is unlikely that he will be back in January.”

Palace transfer news

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glassner says the club are working on bringing in two players during the January transfer window.

Palace is reportedly on the market

“We will let you know as soon as we sign a player. We are working on two transfers but I don’t know how quickly we will complete them,” Glassner said.

“When we talk about it, it makes it more expensive!”

Glessner also revealed that no Palace player has told him they want to leave the club in this window, amid interest in the centre-back’s former club Chelsea, Mark Guhi.

“If we can keep the team together – because we’re really pleased with the players and how they’ve developed after not having an easy start in the last few months – that looks quite positive.

“Nobody told me he wanted to leave. That’s the most important part: the players want to be here.
