The IBF has ordered No. 5 Subril Matias and No. 6 Gabriel Valenzuela to begin negotiations for a light welterweight title eliminator to decide on a challenge for the new 140-pound champion Number one contender for the Richardson Hitchens belt.
IBF Order Eliminator
Mathias, 32, has a good chance of returning to world title contention and regaining the old IBF belt he lost a year ago when he lost a 12-round unanimous decision to Liam Parrot on June 15 .
It will be a difficult task for Valenzuela to defeat Matias because he is a good boxer and he will constantly put pressure on him. Gabriel will likely follow Paro’s blueprint and use movement, great clinchping, shoving and other rough tactics to try and win.
Elvis Rodriguez chose not to fight Matias (21-2, 21 KOs). Otherwise, he will face the former IBF light welterweight champion in a championship eliminator. That was his undoing as he was next up against Yumar Alamo.
