Skeleton Crew Continued Jod Villains?

More often than not, Star Wars about redemption. Darth Vader saves Luke. Ben Solo helps Rey. The Mandalorian provided his code for Grogu. Up and down the list, characters who were once evil become good. Currently, at the latest Star Wars show, Skeleton Crew, we see the opposite. Jod Nawood (Jude Law) went from a scumbag would-be hero to an all-out evil villain throughout the series and now, as we come to the end, we’re wondering, what’s going to happen next?

Obviously, your guess is as good as ours here. We haven’t seen the final episode yet, and won’t until everyone does at 9 pm EST next Tuesday, January 14. So don’t worry about spoilers. We’re just wondering if the show will keep its top billed A-list star as the bad guy or if it’s a possibility it won’t be.

To quickly recap, the four children who make up the crew are met by Jod in a prison where he uses the Force to help them escape. He then becomes their de facto guide and leader as they attempt to return to their homeland of At-Attin. However, Jod, known by almost every character on the show by a different name, seems to be tagging along mainly out of kindness. He wanted to see if the legends were true. If At-Attin really has a great treasure in it.

So Jod takes the crew across the galaxy, piecing together the clues, and gracefully avoiding any details about himself. We know he is sensitive to energy. We believe he is telling the truth about loss and loneliness. He was a pirate captain before making some mistakes. But when it became clear that At-Attin was holding some kind of treasure, a switch went off. The antihero immediately becomes the greedy, evil pirate we met in the first scene of the series. and, at the end of the penultimate seventh episodehe’s taken things a step further, killing his first mate Brutus, brandishing a lightsaber to threaten children and their parents, and finally discovered At-Attin’s treasure.

In our opinion, Skeleton Crew taking care to show Jod fully embracing his pirate side, it would almost be a betrayal for him to return. At least in IT time. Maybe, at the end of this season, he escapes and in a hypothetical next season, we see him realize the error of his ways. Anakin Skywalker, of course, famously came back from the side of Actually Killed Some Kids–Jod’s beau in the grand scheme of things. Sure, he cuts off SM-33’s head cleanly, but he doesn’t step on the cute alien mouse that calls the head home! If that transition happens now, though, at this point in time, it will be a huge disappointment if he turns so quickly down this path he’s been on.

Jod’s arc is one of the true highlights of the show, setting up an emotionally charged showdown between him and the four children he pretends to save. Let’s continue this. Make your show a bad guy. We don’t care. We like it. if Skeleton Crew hopes to be the second best Disney + Star Wars show so far, should play that and keep him living on the dark side for a little while.

What do you think? Do you agree? Is Jod worthy, or deserving, of saving? Let us know below.

The first seven episodes of Skeleton Crew is now on Disney+. Arrive before the end.
