With a limited amateur background, former world heavyweight champion George Foreman won a gold medal at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.

He defeated Soviet fighter Ionas Chepulis, stopping him in two rounds and then walking around the ring with an American flag in his hand.

Foreman turned professional in June 1969. He defeated South American champion Gregorio Peralta at Madison Square Garden with a score of 74-5-8 for his 28th consecutive victory.

In August 1970, he stopped the tough-jawed Canadian George Chuvalo at the Garden with a score of 59-15-2. Prior to this, Chuvalo had only been stopped by “Smoking Man” Joe Frazier, which was the only time he was stopped in his career.

In January 1973, Foreman defeated Frazier 29-0 in two rounds in Kingston, Jamaica, to win the world heavyweight title.

In September 1974, he defeated Ken Norton 30-2 in Caracas, Venezuela. In October, he lost to former champion Muhammad Ali 44-2 due to suspension in Zaire, Africa.

In January 1976, Foreman made a comeback in one of boxing’s greatest heavyweight matches, defeating Ron Lyle with a score of 31-3-1, earning what Ring magazine called NABF title for “Fight of the Year.” In June, he defeated Frazier in a rematch at the Nassau Coliseum in New York City in five rounds.

Four wins later, Foreman defeated Philadelphia’s Jimmy Young 20-5-2 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. When he saw a vision of Jesus in the locker room, his entire life changed, which ultimately led to him becoming a missionary.

Foreman went on to win 26 consecutive fights before losing to champion Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield 25–0 in April 1991 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Then he won three games in a row in Las Vegas before losing to Tommy “Duke” Morrison 35-1. In his next fight, he regained the world title by knocking out all-card trailing champion Michael “Double M” Muller 35-0 in ten rounds in Las Vegas. At 45, he became the oldest boxer ever to win the title.

In April 1995 in Las Vegas, Foreman won a controversial majority decision over Germany’s Axel Schulz, 21-1-1. Two years later, he defeated Lou Savarese 35-0 in two games in Atlantic City. After refusing to give Schultz a rematch and win the WBU title, he was stripped of the title.

Next, in his final fight in Atlantic City in November 1997, he lost to Shannon ‘The Cannon’ Briggs by a score of 29–1, and went from Retired from boxing.

His final record was an impressive 76-5 with 68 knockouts.
