sky sports news It is understood that Moyes has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract until 2027.
The 61-year-old said he had “no hesitation” in taking the job again.
“It’s great to be back!” Moyes said. “I spent 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and when the opportunity came up to rejoin this great club I didn’t hesitate.
“I’m delighted to be working with (new owner) Friedkin Group and I look forward to helping them rebuild the club.
“Now we need Goodison and all Evertonians to play their part and support the players during this important season so we can move into our fabulous new stadium as a Premier League team.”
Everton executive chairman Mark Watts added: “We are delighted that David is joining us at this crucial time in Everton’s history.
“With over a decade’s experience at the club, he is the right leader to take us through our final season at Goodison Park and into our new stadium. We look forward to working with David to lay the foundations for a new era at Everton. “
Analysis: Moyes is Everton’s safest option
Alan Myers, Sky Sports News:
“David Moyes is the safest option. The risk of changing managers in this position is high. Having someone who knows the club inside out and can hit the ground running is a big advantage.”
“Everton need security from the club and I think he can do that. The initial aim is to ensure Everton retain their Premier League status before moving to a new stadium.
“Things have changed since Moyes last played for Everton. Now he will be working under what the outside world may consider to be a ruthless boss. It’s not the same stability as he had when Bill Kenwright was chairman ”
