Pakistan opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad has launched a scathing attack on the organizers of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for putting connections over genuine talent. Shehzad said the league is for players with good connections and doesn’t care about talented players.
Shehzad also claimed that the organizers wanted him to be involved in reviving the PSL, which he claimed was in decline. But he rejected the offer and vowed to fight injustice.

Ahmed Shehzad slams PSL
Ahmed Shehzad took to social media to explain his decision to withdraw from the upcoming PSL season. He accused the league of prioritizing deeper connections rather than finding players with real talent. Shehzad further claimed that he did not sign up for PSL 2025 and said that he had broken up last year.
“My decision to leave the PSL stemmed from a lack of merit and prioritizing connections over real talent. I did not sign up for PSL 10 and publicly parted ways with the league last year,” Shehzad posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Shehzad further mentioned on X that the PSL organizers wanted him to participate to revive the PSL. But he wants to fight against the injustice done by certain cricketers and wants to stay there till the end.
“They want me to be part of a league that is declining every year, looking for players who can revive it, but without the guarantee of the merits of this league I’m not interested. I represent those who are overlooked and will continue to do that for us I will not relent in my fight for justice in this sport and will persevere to the end,” he added.

PSL 2025 Draft Dates
Despite Ahmed Shehzad claiming that he has not signed up for PSL 2025, his name has been included in the gold category among homegrown players in the draft. The PSL 2025 draft will be held on January 13 in Lahore.
The PSL matches were postponed as the Champions Trophy was to be played in Pakistan. The league is likely to overlap with the IPL, making it less conducive to big foreign players. The 2025 Champions Trophy will be played between Pakistan and UAE on February 19.
Ahmed Shehzad’s PSL number
Ahmed Shehzad’s last PSL match was in 2020 while playing for Quetta Gladiators. He had a disappointing season with the bat, scoring 61 runs in 7 innings. Overall, Shehzad played 46 games in the PSL and scored 1077 runs at an average of 26.26 and a strike rate of 120.06.
Shehzad’s last international match was back in 2019 against Sri Lanka in Lahore. Since then, the 33-year-old opener has withdrawn from the national team. Recently, he expressed concern over Pakistan’s poor performance in various formats.
