India chief selector Ajit Agarkar explains why Karun Nair was not included in the 2025 Champions Trophy squad

During the press conference, Agarkar acknowledged Nair’s outstanding statistics but explained that the selection committee faced tough choices when finalizing the squad. “It’s crazy to average over 750 people per game, but we only have 15 people on the team, so we can’t accommodate everyone,” Agarca said. He stressed that while individual performance is crucial in domestic cricket, it must be balanced with team dynamics and the overall makeup of the team. Agarkar further elaborated that the selectors must consider various factors, including the players’ past international experience and their ability to perform under pressure in high-stakes tournaments such as the Champions League. “Given the talent we have, finding a spot in this team is difficult,” he added.
