Player ratings took a big hit as the Gunners’ title hopes

Arsenal let a two-goal lead slip as they were held to a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Arsenal fans feared in the first 30 minutes that their team’s struggles in front of goal would take over here again, but those worries were eased when Gabriel Martinelli stabbed home from close range late in the first half. Emiliano Martinez scrambled to save a shot on the goal-line but the buzz on the referee’s clock confirmed the goal.

Havertz doubled Arsenal’s advantage with a smart finish from a Leandro Trossard cross early in the second half, but Youri Tielemans’ diving header halved the deficit almost immediately and Ollie Watkins’ controlled volley saw the sides level in the final 20 minutes.

Arsenal thought they had won it late on when Mikel Marino’s strike found the back of the net, only for the VAR check to chalk it up to a handball from Kai Havertz.

With Liverpool grabbing a late win against Brentford earlier in the day, the Gunners now look to be six points behind the league leaders with one more game to play.
