Trump to declare national emergency to unlock new powers – Bloomberg By Investing.com

Investing.com– President-elect Donald Trump is preparing to declare a national emergency to give him more power to boost the domestic energy industry and also change some climate change policies, it has been reported. said Bloomberg on Monday.

Trump’s declaration of an emergency is expected to take place from the first day of his second term, which officially begins later on Monday, Bloomberg reports.

Trump is expected to outline new policies that allow oil and gas development on more Federal lands, while also lowering curbs on new energy developments put in place by outgoing Joe Biden Administration on climate change issues, Bloomberg reports.

Trump reiterated his plans to boost domestic energy production when speaking at a “victory to victory” rally in Washington on Sunday. He also emphasized his plans to combat illegal immigration.

Trump is expected to sign at least hundreds of executive orders on the first day of his administration. A Fox News Digital report says Trump will sign more than 200 executive orders on his first day in office – the most by any President in US history.

Earlier reports said Trump was planning to declare a national economic emergency to also help push his agenda of higher trade tariffs against China and other major economies. The President-elect flagged a hawkish stance against China when campaigning, and threatened at least a 60% tariff on all Chinese imports.

However, recent reports say that Trump may adopt a staggered approach to tariffs, to gain more bargaining power and to offset their regulatory impact.

The President-elect did not mention his tariff plans when speaking at Sunday’s rally.
