Indian national cricket team captain and senior opener Rohit Sharma has been officially named in Mumbai’s 17-member squad for the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy against Jammu and Kashmir. The high-profile match is scheduled to be played on January 23 at the MCA Cricket Stadium in Mumbai.

India captain Rohit Sharma is all set to play in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane. This will be the first time Ranji has been seen by The Killer in nine years. The last time the Indian opener played a Ranji Trophy match was against Uttar Pradesh at the Wankhede Stadium in November 2015.

Prithvi Shaw was dropped from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) again while Sarfaraz Khan and his brother Musheer Khan also failed to make it to the Mumbai boards 17-man squad for the match against Ranji in Jammu and Kashmir at the MCA Cricket Ground.
In an official media release, MCA said: “The Senior Selection Committee of the Mumbai Cricket Association, comprising Mr. Sanjay Patil (Chairman), Mr. Ravi Thaker, Mr. Jeetendra Thackeray, Mr. Kiran Powar and Mr. Vikrant Yeligeti, has selected the following players to represent Mumbai in the tournament. The Ranji Trophy 2025 match against Jammu and Kashmir will be held from January 23 to 26 at the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, BKC, Mumbai.”

It is worth noting that Rohit Sharma is going through the toughest phase of his career as he scored just 31 runs in five innings in the recent 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy match against Australia. Rohit’s Test figures have raised doubts about his future in the Indian cricket team.
However, the India skipper has performed well in white-ball cricket in 2024 but his Test figures have been appalling, putting him under immense pressure. Notably, India played just three ODIs in 2024 and Rohit scored 157 runs in 11 T20Is, compared to his 378 runs before retiring in June last year.
But the right-handed batsman can only score 619 runs in 14 Tests in 2024. However, Rohit Sharma will now hope to return to form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25.
