Meta Makes Oakley Smart Glasses for Athletes

In an apparent effort to get tanned meatheads excited about products invented by a bunch of pasty-faced nerds, Meta has teamed up with sporty sunglasses firm Oakley to create a new type of smart glasses.

Bloomberg reported Tuesday that the two companies are working together on a smart glasses partnership. The glasses will be sold to athletes, according to the report. Citing “people with knowledge of the matter,” the news outlet outlined some of the ways in which Meta plans to diversify its smart glasses product base in the coming years:

…First, the company plans to introduce its existing Ray-Ban glasses to new markets. Second, Meta expanded its smart glasses technology to other fashion brands owned by partner Luxottica Group SA. That includes a new version – called “Supernova 2” – based on Oakley’s Sphaera glasses. This model, which moves the camera to the center of the frame of the glasses, will be aimed at cyclists and other athletes.

What helps you ride a bike better than a pair of sunglasses that take photos and phone calls? While details about how such glasses would work are currently slim, the whole idea seems ridiculous. Bloomberg says that although the Meta glasses do not currently provide a true AR experience, this is something the company is working overtime to achieve. A newer model is now being developed that “will include a display on the lower part of the right lens that projects information into a user’s field of view,” writes Bloomberg. Users will be able to “run simple software apps, view notifications, and view photos taken on the device,” it added. Right, because that is Granted help you ride a bike.

God knows why does Zuck want these bad things to happen but it is clearly the way of the future. Meta already has a fair amount of success in the smart glasses market through its partnership with Ray-Ban. Now, as it seeks to expand its audience, it makes sense that the company is trying to reach different segments of the public. I’m guessing that as long as he’s sucking Trump, he probably thinks he needs to suck Trump’s base as well (which is to say, police officers).

Bloomberg notes that Meta’s push into the smart glasses market could also be a way for the company to find useful applications for another product line it has spent years developing: metaverse items. and its virtual reality software, which it has. spent metric fucktons on developing money. Since full-blown goggles and headsets didn’t work very well, the next best thing was to convert everyone’s sunnies into little metaverse conduits.
