Ohio State wins first national title since 2014
Ohio State University Winning the first national championship in a decade marked college football’s return to the top. The Buckeyes last won a title during the 2014 season under Urban Meyer, defeating Oregon State 42-20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The program’s last two national championship wins were historic, as the Buckeyes now have titles in both the inaugural four-team and 12-team playoffs. Their 34-23 victory over Notre Dame ensured they became the first champions of this expanded playoff format.
In Ryan Day’s six years as coach, Ohio State has appeared in the CFP four times. The closest they’ve come to a national championship is in the 2022 season, when they face Alabama in the championship game. However, the Crimson Tide defeated the Buckeyes 52-24.
After a dominant display in the first round, Ryan Day’s side undoubtedly deserved the win this time around. After a fourth straight loss to rival Michigan, the coach and his team entered the playoffs under tremendous pressure. However, they were able to turn things around when it mattered most.
