SAP CEO issues battle cry for European AI

U.S. President Donald Trump recently Announcing the Stargate Project The CEO of one of Europe’s largest tech companies says a $500 billion investment in U.S. artificial intelligence infrastructure should be a “wake-up call” for Europe.

Asked about the project on Thursday, SAP CEO Christian Klein said it should set an example for Europe. The project is backed by OpenAI, SoftBank and Oracle and led by the Trump administration.

“It’s the right move and it’s about making government more productive,” he said. “Look at Europe, we always complain about the regulation of too much artificial intelligence behavior… This is a big problem in Europe. Good role model.”

Klein added that he would “absolutely support” Europe’s Stargate project.

“We do business with all public sectors around the world and certainly we welcome that in Europe,” he told CNBC’s Karen Tso and Steve Sedgwick. “From my perspective, Europe needs it the most.”
