The US president says “everything will be revealed” about the Kennedy assassination, which fueled conspiracy theories for decades.

US President Donald Trump has ordered the declassification and release of all remaining documents related to the assassination of former US President John F Kennedy, the subject of a widespread conspiracy spanning six decades topic of discussion.

The executive order signed by Trump on Thursday also calls for the release of the last remaining records about JFK’s brother, Robert F Kennedy, as well as civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr.

“This is a big one. A lot of people have been waiting for it for decades,” Trump said as he signed the order at the White House.

“All will be revealed.”

Under Trump’s order, the national intelligence secretary must come up with a plan within 15 days for the “complete release” of files related to JFK’s assassination and within 45 days for the release of documents on the other two assassinations.

The circumstances of Kennedy’s assassination in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963, have haunted Americans for decades, with investigations casting widespread doubt over the official explanation for the killing.

In a 2023 Gallup poll, 65% of Americans said they disapproved of the Warren Commission’s finding that Lee Harvey Oswald was the man killed at JFK JFK), a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who was arrested for single-handedly killing the president.

20% of respondents said they believed Oswald conspired with the U.S. government, while 16% said they believed he collaborated with the CIA.

Robert F. Kennedy, the son of Trump’s nominee for health secretary, was involved in his father’s death by agency.

After signing the order in the Oval Office, Trump handed his used pen to an aide, saying, “Give this to RFK Jr.”

Jack Schlossberg, JFK’s grandson, criticized Trump’s order, saying his grandfather’s death was not part of an “inevitable grand plan.”

“Declassification used the JFK establishment as a political prop when he wasn’t here to look back. There’s nothing heroic about any of this,” Schlossberg, who is Vogue magazine’s political correspondent, said in an article in X. “

In 1992, the U.S. Congress passed a law that stipulates that outstanding files related to the Kennedy assassination will be released within 25 years unless the president determines that the harm to national security outweighs the interest in public disclosure.

Trump ordered the release of more than 2,800 documents after a 2017 deadline, but bowed to pressure from the CIA and FBI to withhold thousands of other documents pending review.

Former U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration ordered the release of about 17,000 documents, while fewer than 4,700 were withheld in part or in full.

In total, 99 percent of the 320,000 files have been released since the law was passed in 1992, according to the National Archives.

King, whose “I Have a Dream” speech became a defining moment in the fight for equality for black Americans, was shot to death outside a motel in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 1968.

Robert F Kennedy was shot to death in a Los Angeles hotel on June 5, 1968, shortly after winning the California Democratic presidential primary.
