Russian drone strikes in Ukraine’s Kiev region, killing two Russia-Ukraine war news


Ukraine also sent drones to Russia, and air defense systems intercepted attacks on 13 regions, including Moscow.

A Russian drone attack near the Ukrainian capital killed at least two people.

Mykola Kalashnik, the acting head of the Kiev Regional Military Administration, said on Friday that two people were killed and two others were injured in their home during a nighttime “enemy drone attack” targeting the Kiev region.

The attack came as Russian authorities said the country’s air defenses intercepted and destroyed 121 drones launched by Ukraine at night. A statement posted by the Russian Defense Ministry on Telegram said the drones were shot down over 13 regions in Russia, including seven over Moscow and nearby areas.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the drones were intercepted at several locations around the capital.

Russian news agencies quoted the Federal Aviation Administration as saying that two Moscow airports – Vnukovo and Domodedovo – were still handling flights after suspending operations. Six flights were diverted to other airports.

Other areas targeted include Kursk, Bryansk, Belgorod and the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula, according to the Defense Ministry.

The governors of the Ryazan and Tula regions, located south of Moscow, also reported attacks.

America is under pressure

In the early days of the US president’s term, Moscow and Kiev are jockeying for advantage in possible talks Donald Trumpof administration.

Before taking office, Trump pledged to end the war in Ukraine as soon as he took office, raising expectations that he would use aid to force Kyiv to make concessions to Russia, which invaded in February 2022.

But this week he stepped up pressure on his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin reached a deal and threatened tougher economic measures if Moscow did not agree to end the nearly three-year war.

“If they don’t resolve this war soon, like almost immediately, I’m going to impose huge tariffs, huge taxes, huge sanctions on Russia,” Trump said in an interview on Thursday.
