‘Abhi Ashneer hota toh…’: Anupam Mittal’s ‘baap kaun hai’ comment to Ritesh Agarwal on Shark Tank India 4 angers netizens

Shaadi.com founder and investor Anupam Mittal has grabbed the headlines for all the wrong reasons. In a recent episode of Shark Tank India Season 4, the entrepreneur-investor had a heated argument with his co-judge and co-founder of OYO Rooms, Ritesh Agarwal.

During the launch of luxury goods services brand Sneakinn, some “sharks” made fun of Mittal’s age, but a similar comment from Agarwal upset Mittal. He compared the branding business to the diagnostics business, which SUGAR Cosmetics founder Vineeta Singh found odd.

Hearing Ritesh’s explanation, Anupam laughed and said, “Aap bimaar jooton ki laboratory banayenge.” The founder of OYO Rooms said that we will take as sharks those people who have reached 60 years together. Later, Anupam said, “Come on, who is your father?”

Needless to say, Anupam Mittal’s comments irked Reddit users and made them compare Mittal to Ashneer Grover, who is known for making short comments on the show.

“Abhi Ashneer hota to answer Anupam ko,” wrote one user.

“Vapas aa jao bully ashneer,” wrote another user.

“I don’t know why but Anupam has taken the responsibility of being rude after Ashneer leaves… He thinks he will look cool after all this but after all he is losing his fans and originality… Em feel bad for Reetesh Man.. Such an innocent soul Everyone makes fun of him in one way or another especially veeneeta and this idiot anupam,” pointed out a fourth user.

“Looks like Anupam has taken responsibility for trp,” observed one Redditor.

Back on the pitch, the founding couple, Sahil and Arunima, sought funding of ₹90 lakh in exchange for a 3% stake in their company, taking their valuation to ₹30 crore. They mentioned that there was a gap in the market as people did not have options to use, repair and refurbish expensive shoes and bags.

Despite Anupam’s attack, Ritesh offered the entrepreneurs ₹45 lakh for 5% equity and the remaining ₹45 lakh as debt for 10%. Vineeta and Anupam came together and made an offer of ₹90 lakh in exchange for 10% equity and 1% royalty.

Kunal Bahl, founder of Titan Capital, mentioned that when someone asks for royalties, asking them is the equivalent of valuing your company at zero. The founders, however, struck a deal with Anupam Mittal at ₹90 lakh for 6.5 percent equity.
