Ajit Agarkar, Gautam Gambhir concerned over Mayank Yadav’s exclusion from England series


Young Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav will miss the upcoming white-ball series against England, which includes 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs, due to a back injury. Mayank Yadav is still recovering from last year’s injury and is unlikely to be fit in time to be considered for the T20I squad.

Yadav made his debut in the T20I series against Bangladesh in October 2024, but he got injured again after the series. He missed the T20I series against South Africa in November, as well as domestic events such as the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Mayank Yadav unlikely to feature in England series, report says

According to a report in The Times of India, Mayank Yadav is still recovering from a back injury and is unlikely to be fit in time for the T20I series against England.

The 22-year-old has not been included in Delhi’s likely squad for the Ranji Trophy second-leg first match against Saurashtra on January 23. Yadav is expected to make his comeback during the 2025 IPL.

“He has injured his back and is unlikely to feature in the England series. He has not even been named for the first Ranji match against Saurashtra in the second leg in Delhi from January 23,” a BCCI source Sources told reporters Toy.

Mayank Yadav continues recovery at BCCI Center of Excellence, Bengaluru

Mayank Yadav has been recovering at the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bengaluru for the past few months. He last played an official match on October 12, 2023, against Bangladesh in the third T20I in Hyderabad.

The Delhi pacer is making headlines in the 2024 IPL season while playing for Lucknow Supergiants. The right-arm fast bowler consistently bowls over 150 kmph and has a top speed of 156.7 kmph. However, his impressive run was cut short by abdominal soreness after just four games.

Indian selectors prepare to announce squad for T20I series in England

The Indian selectors are expected to announce the squad for the five-match T20I series against England in the coming days.

The provisional squad for the Champions Trophy and the three-match ODI series against England is likely to be decided after January 18-19 as the BCCI plans to seek an extension from the ICC considering the original deadline of January 12 .

“According to sources, the selectors are likely to first select the Indian team for the five-match T20I series, which will begin with the first T20I in Kolkata on January 22. They are likely to select the Indian team for the three-match ODI series The team will receive the championship trophy after around January 19th,” the report added.

The five-match T20I series will begin on January 22 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The next three matches will be played in Chennai, Rajkot and Pune, with the final match taking place in Mumbai on February 2. After the T20I series, the teams will play a three-match ODI series from February 6 to 12.
