Andy Muschietti Shares His Ideal 3-Season Timeline for It: Welcome to Derry

It’s: Welcome to Derry one of the our most anticipated horror projects for 2025and now we’re even more excited to see it knowing what director Andy Muschietti envisions for its future. If the HBO series is successful, he said in a recent interview, he hopes it will end up with three seasons in total, with different decades as a backdrop to the events.

It makes sense, because Pennywise (who will be played by Nosferatuby Bill Skarsgård, again bad paper from Muschietti’s it and Chapter Two) makes its eerie presence felt in Derry, Maine every 27 years. Speaking Spanish language Radio Youand reported by Blood Abominable XMuschietti revealed his ideal three-season arc for the story. The first season, which is almost finished, takes place in 1962. Then, the proposed second season is 1935, followed by a third season set in 1908.

As fans of Muschietti movies will remember, 2017’s it took place in 1988 and 1989, allowing for all the New Kids on the Block references. Chapter Two then continues forward you-know-many years, catching up with the now-adult characters in 2016. Stephen King’s original novel, released in 1986, takes place in the time frames of 1957-58 and 1984 -85; its flashbacks help inform Welcome to DerryThe story is, but apparently some details will be changed to better fit into Muschietti’s version of the universe.

This news from Muschietti is more detailed than before It’s: Welcome to DerryFuture plans (again, HBO has only guaranteed one season so far). The main details that have been made official – apart from Skarsgård’s place in the cast – are that the show is “set in the world of Stephen King’s. it universe;” it is based on the novel but will also “expand the vision” of Muschietti’s two films.

The rest of the cast includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso; Muschietti is one of the show’s executive producers along with Jason Fuchs (who scripted the first episode) and Brad Caleb King (who co-showruns with Fuchs), among others. No word yet on exactly when It’s: Welcome to Derry will air on HBO, but it will happen in 2025.
