Appeals court won’t block partial release of special counsel Jack Smith’s Trump report


A federal appeals court has rejected a request to block the release of portions of special counsel Jack Smith’s final report detailing his investigation and prosecution of President-elect Trump for alleged interference in the 2020 election and improper withholding of classified records.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit rejected requests from Trump aide Walt Nauta and former Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos de Oliveira for allegedly obstructing another A federal investigation into Trump’s handling of sensitive government records.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit halted the Department of Justice’s release of the report for three days.

In 2022, Garland appointed Smith to investigate Trump and his allies’ alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, as well as Trump’s keeping of allegedly confidential documents at his Florida residence.
