Promoter Bob Arum says he won’t rule out his former boxer Terrence Crawford if he gets a big 12-round fight this September Title challenge against WBA/WBC/WBO super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez.
Switch attack threat
Arum thinks Crawford (37, 39 KOs)’s ability to switch shots will cause trouble for Canelo (62-2-2, 39 KOs), like he did against Errol in 2023. Spencer. Errol was at a disadvantage against Crawford, looking sluggish, tired and not at all the fighter he was in 2018.
Crawford’s southpaw vs. Canelo probably won’t faze the Mexican star as he has fought many southpaw boxers and has never had a problem with them. If Bard becomes left-handed, it won’t affect the fight other than him hitting hard in a different stance.
The real problem Arum doesn’t address is that Crawford is too old, too young, and too frail to compete at 168 years old. He may be hoping to gain 14 pounds and replicate what Floyd Mayweather Jr. did against then-22-year-old Caney Lowe, 2013.
That’s stupid because if that version of Mayweather fought Canelo now, he would be knocked out. Alvarez, now stronger and more experienced, would never agree to a 152-pound net.
“I wouldn’t count Crawford out in any fight because he has unique talents; he’s a great boxer and he’s really good with both hands,” said Bob Arum . fight hype When asked about Terrence Crawford’s chances against Canelo Alvarez.
“He drives his opponents crazy because they train to fight right-handed boxers and end up fighting southpaws. That’s what happened to Errol (when he fought Crawford on June 29, 2023) . Spence was trained by right-handed fighters, but he only saw left-handed fighters.
“I think what Crawford is looking for is Manny Pacquiao vs. Oscar De La Hoya,” Arum said of what kind of upset Terrence is looking for against Canelo Said the situation.
No net weight
It was a different story in 2008 when Oscar De La Hoya faced Manny Pacquiao. Oscar De La Hoya has been a washed-up part-time boxer throughout his career, competing at junior middleweight. He agreed to fight Pacquiao at 145 pounds and then lost the excess weight through diet. He looked terrible, kept gaining weight, and it showed during the game.
Canelo isn’t going to diet or lose weight for Crawford, and he’s not an overly part-time boxer like Oscar was. If Crawford thinks Canelo will become another De La Hoya, he’s kidding himself. They are two different people.
Canelo remains in shape and will not agree to give Bader a weight handicap like De La Hoya did with Pacquiao. Oscar shouldn’t have done that because he was the “golden boy” and the superstar in that fight and he could have insisted that Pacquiao move up to 154 to fight him. It’s a weird situation where De La Hoya bends over backwards, giving Manny a better chance to even the playing field. In doing so, he weakened himself and lost.
