British comedian Russell Brand has been charged with multiple sexual assaults in the UK.

Brand, once one of the most eye-catching artists and broadcasters in the UK, faces one count of rape, one of indecent assaults, one of verbal rape and two counts of sexual assault, according to a statement issued by the Metropolitan Police on Friday.

The allegations stem from complaints from four women about crimes that occurred between 1999 and 2005.

Police said the investigation into the brand “stay open” and encourage anyone who is affected or may be information about the case.

The allegations came more than a year after the British media channel 4 and the Sunday Times Revealed attack charges By four women against the brand.

The 50-year-old comedian denied any misconduct, noting that despite his many sexual relationships, they were “always voluntary.”

Brand addressed Tucker Carlson, a conservative political commentator in January 2024, calling the allegations against him “very very, very painful.”

“I know, I’m very, very promiscuous and put myself in an extremely vulnerable position. This is not the type of behavior I agree with, and it certainly is not the way I live now,” he said.

Brand is known for his stance routines, and he also hosts many shows on radio and television, memoirs about his drug and alcohol fights, appeared in Hollywood movies, and married pop star Katy Perry from 2010 to 2012.

Brand has largely lacked in mainstream media in recent years, but has built a lot of attention online and blended health and conspiracy theories through video. He recently said he had moved to the United States.

Police said the brand will appear in court on May 2.
