Eddie Hearn has been raving about a fight between British heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua being “the biggest thing in boxing’s business” Contest”.

Fans outside the UK would rather see Canelo Alvarez fight Terrence Crawford, David Benavidez, Artur Beterbiev or Dmitry Bivol puts up a real fight. These are real fights and the contestants are still relatively close to their prime.

ESPN’s Mike Coppinger believes a Canelo-Crawford fight is bigger than a Fury-Joshua fight. He believes that with 1 million PPV buys in the United States alone, it might be possible. This will certainly generate bigger numbers than the Joshua vs. Fury fight on PPV in the United States. This still isn’t the biggest fight Canelo has had. The fight between him and David Benavidez is much bigger than Crawford’s, but he doesn’t want to fight the “Mexican Monster.”

So, Crawford is the best we can get right now, and this fight is still bigger than the one between “The Gypsy King” and AJ. Both men lost. Daniel Dubois knocked out Joshua, and Fury was defeated twice in a row by Usyk. It’s a shame how promoters like Hearn try to sell a fight between Fury and Joshua on PPV and tout it as “the greatest fight in boxing”.

People know what Furious Joshua is about – making money for them and the promoters. At this late stage of Joshua and Fury’s careers, trying to sell a fight between them won’t work outside of the UK.

The British might do that. They’ll probably want to watch it a lot and be willing to pay whatever it takes to see their old heroes reappear in their golden years. American fans won’t be interested, especially if the underdogs are loaded with domestic level fights such as the Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk 2 card and the Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois event.

Joshua Fury would have been great a decade ago, but even he wouldn’t have been a huge hit outside the UK. Neither of these two heavyweights has fought against the most cutting edge opposition in their careers. Part of the problem is that AJ and Fury fought in an era when the heavyweight division was weak.

As a result, they were able to feast against the likes of Deontay Wilder, 40-year-old Wladimir Klitschko, Alexander Povetkin and Kubrat Pulev. When some good fighters finally came along, like Martin Bakole, they wanted nothing to do with him.
