The rapid accumulation of ice can create a variety of complications and possible hazards for aircraft. Ice on the wings can disrupt airflow and cause a sudden loss of lift, leading to a stall or crash.
Aircraft affected by rapid ice accumulation are typically kept grounded and then treated with special fluids that melt ice and frost. But in severe conditions, even frequent de-icing may not be enough to keep up with rapid ice accumulation.
