China’s Ministry of Commerce said it “resolutely opposes” US President Donald Trump’s threat to tariff escalation and vows to take countermeasures to safeguard his own rights and interests.

Trump said he would impose an additional 50% duty on U.S. imports if Beijing does not withdraw last week’s 34% tariffs on U.S. products.

“Beyond the mistake, the U.S. threat of escalating tariffs to China is a mistake,” the statement said. “China will never accept it. If the U.S. sticks to its own way, China will fight to the end.”
