Costco members have a 2025 wish list of improvements they’d like to see

Costco members on social media have highlighted a few things about the warehouse retailer that they think could be improved.

While there’s a lot to love about Costco, the members Subreddits dedicated to cost have identified crowds, design and the retailer’s website as sometimes a problem in their shopping experience.

In a Reddit thread Focusing on Costco’s positives and negatives last month, several people pointed to crowding in the retailer’s warehouses, with one user describing them as “new.”

“Every time I go to Costco, no matter the day or time, I’m met with huge crowds, with the checkout line halfway to the back of the store,” a Costco member said in a separate thread three months ago “Every corridor is crowded and the situation is made worse by the free sample people creating artificial traffic jams at every intersection.”

Some users said they encountered fewer people when they visited at certain times, such as shortly after opening or close to closing time.

The layout of Costco’s warehouses, as well as the retailer’s practice of relocating items and frequently changing deals, came up in Costco subreddit threads.

A user suggested the retailer having a map or adding signs above the aisles in their warehouses could be helpful, saying they spent “a lot of time going back and forth up and down each aisle” looking for items.

“You can’t rely on an item you like/need to stay in stock as Costco is constantly changing their inventory,” said another. “But that also means they have new stuff all the time.”

Other criticism of the arrangement focused on traffic inside Costcos near entrances and checkout areas.

Costco might also bring updates to its website, according to Reddit fans. Some commented on its functionality and appearance.

Meanwhile, others suggested that Costco should bring “scan and go” technology to its shopping experience.

FOX Business has reached out to the warehouse retailer for comment.

In its most recent annual filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the company said its concept is focused on “offering our members low prices on a limited selection of national brand and private label products in a wide range of categories” “produces high sales volume and rapid inventory turnover”. It typically carries fewer than 4,000 different products in its warehouses at any given time.

Costco noted on its website that it has a “treasure hunt atmosphere” in its nearly 900 warehouses.

“One of the most exciting things about shopping at our warehouses is that you never know what kind of amazing deals you’ll find from one visit to the next,” said a page on the company’s website. “And since we rotate and introduce new merchandise all the time, we encourage you to purchase items you’re interested in sooner rather than later so you don’t miss out.”

With its design, Costco seeks “economy and efficiency in the use of sales space, merchandise handling and inventory control,” according to its latest annual report. Its control of tickets and membership usage helps keep theft at lower levels than other retailers, according to the company.

The company began rolling out membership card scanners at the front of its US warehouses during the summer of last year.
