One of the most scandalous and delightful features of house release of BAD is the featured commentary of the stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. It also includes several deleted scenes, giving fans a glimpse of what nothing include it in the musical epic.
Grande has been particularly vocal about her love for a long time. “I love them all. They all have a very special place in my heart,” Grande said different over the weekend of the Palm Springs International Film Festival. He also said that he personally advocated for the release of even those who were not included in the home screening of the film. (We hope for friendship scene in the meadow between Elphie, Galinda, Nessa, Pfannee, Shen Shen, Boq and Fiyero where there is a hunk-off of shirtless boys, as detailed by a Bowen Yang.) “I talked to Jon,” added Grande, referring to director Jon M. Chu.
There are also several moments in the film’s commentary when Grande teases Erivo that she wants to release some of the deleted scenes on Instagram. (If he called them “green slime tutorial” clips it would be the funniest Broadway nerd inside joke ever.) Here’s a breakdown of what the stars shared about some of the deleted scenes that you can look at the digital release—and why They think they didn’t make the cut.
“Boq and Elphaba Talk”
“I loved the scene at the train station with Boq (Ethan Slater) and Elphaba (Erivo) … the first time I read the script the line Boq said, ‘I’m sorry, I misunderstood. I think we’re honest,’ me and my acting coach Nancy Banks, we put a lot of hearts because we were like, ‘That’s the best line in the whole movie.’ I think that scene had a lot of beautiful work in it, so I missed that,” Grande told Variety.
He also mentioned it in BAD comment: “Since I read this script, my favorite line is the one by Boq. I think this is one of the most important lines in the whole thing. And I really like that scene, so I hope it sees the light of day.
The scene depicts the moment where Elphie tells Boq to be honest with Nessa about his true feelings, and Boq says he should do the same about Fiyero. However, Elphie plays her feelings so close to the chest that she can’t even admit to herself that she has a crush on her best friend, even though it’s obvious to her friend Boq.
Erivo shared how many friendships were broken, one in particular. “I thought it was a special line. I think it’s important for people to be like, ‘Oh’,” he said of Boq’s recognition of Elphie’s true feelings. “And that’s actually an important relationship from the book, that they’re actually friends. “
“Farewell to the Train Platform”
Another clip that was cut is when Glinda and Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) come to stand up for Elphaba when her father Governor Thropp (Andy Nyman) continues to tease her despite her invitation to the Emerald City. Morrible especially loudly calls out to him. “I loved that moment because it felt like people were holding him,” Erivo explained to Variety.
“Throw Throw”
The “toss toss” clip is the one that Grande and Erivo laugh at on commentary and talk about the extended cut being cut. “That’s a choice. We are trying not to break up. Grande said, “I think we need a whole bunch of Elphie throw tosses. Funny. I just want that whole 12 hours.”
While the deleted scene is included in the BAD The house release wasn’t really 12 hours, we like to imagine that as Grande explained about the moment, “It was when Jon was laughing under the bed. We were all laughing. We had a lot of different ball gowns and toss toss.”
“Elhaba’s Promise”
One of the factors taken away from this deleted scene is the build-up to Elphaba asking Glinda to come with her to the Emerald City, and later, that fateful choice in “Defying Gravity.” Everyone went back to the moment where Elphaba put the classroom to sleep and Glinda clocked that Elphie and Fiyero were no longer with the lion cub. There is jealousy out there but Grande points out that it’s not what you think, at least not yet.
“I know she’s jealous that you didn’t take her, but I don’t think for a second that it would have crossed her mind that anything would have happened,” he said of Glinda’s feeling that she was somehow chosen. of Elphie Fiyero than him. for help. Erivo added that at that point, “I don’t think she thought anything was going to happen,” regarding Elphie’s growing feelings for Fiyero. However, Grande added, “Maybe he knows a little something.”
However, it begins with the knowledge of Gelphie senders how the film’s true love story is between the two main characters, and their friendship is the heart of the film. In this scene, Galinda (as she is still known at this point in the film) reveals that she does not want to be left behind and Elphaba promises that she will take her with her. As Erivo explained, “What you don’t know is that there was a scene that played out before we got out here,” before the Wizard’s invitation came; Fortunately, the deleted scene now fills in the blanks.
Both actors agree that they loved the moment, but understand why it was cut. “We were supposed to get to Emerald City, two hours ago,” Grande joked.
Take the Train to the Emerald City
Gelphie went wild in this clip showing a bit of their train ride and the characters “roommate” bonding. Erivo revealed, “We filmed so much on this train. So much. And none of it made it… I really enjoyed our little moment on the train because I thought it was really fun. ” It’s fun—and bittersweet, because the “One Short Day” sequence is the only time they get to be together outside of Shiz, to experience what’s possible before everything changes. for good.
