washington d.c. – Democratic lawmakers stress smooth transition of power after 2024 Election certification On January 6, 2021, four years after protesters stormed the Capitol, President-elect Trump was elected.
Lawmakers held a joint meeting in Washington, D.C., on Monday to certify Trump and his electoral vote count. Vice President-elect J.D. Vance. Vice President Kamala Harris presided over the certification and oversaw her own loss to Trump in the November presidential election.
Democratic lawmakers spoke to Fox News Digital as they signed the ratification, recalling a “drama-free” ceremony compared with President Joe Biden’s certification four years ago.
“As long as we can maintain our democracy, we still have our democracy,” Rep. Seth Magazina (D-R.I.) told Fox News Digital as he left the House chamber.

another democratIllinois Rep. Jesus Garcia also commented on this year’s peaceful transition of power.
“It went off without a hitch,” Garcia said. “There’s no drama, there’s no competition. There’s no false competition for results.”
“This is a time-honored tradition,” said Rep. John Mannion, D-N.Y. “It’s part of our country’s history and it’s what we need to do. It’s part of the job and I’m happy to be here today.”

Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., told Fox News, “This is a great time for American democracy and we are proud of the vice president because she presided over this.”
“We did our part,” said Rep. Chris Deruzio, D-Pa.
Harris also spoke to reporters after the certification.

“Today is obviously a very important day. It’s about what should be the norm and what the American people should be able to take for granted, which is that one of the most important pillars of our democracy is that there will be a peaceful transfer of power,” Harris said . “Today, American democracy stands firm.”

Trump’s inauguration will take place in two weeks on Monday, January 20.
