Two Premier League ever-presents at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon as Tottenham Hotspur travel to Everton.
These historic clubs have been trophy-shy in contemporary times, and perhaps the two clubs see little of each other. A pair of naturally pessimistic fans have been subject to the 2024/25 campaign so far, although many would argue that Everton are performing in line with pre-season expectations.
Sean Dyche left the Toffees 16th in the table and barely above the drop zone. David Moyes was then drafted in as his successor, but the returning Scot suffered a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in midweek.
Spurs’ barren run in the Premier League continued on Wednesday Armory Beat the North London derby 2-1 at the Emirates. Sunday’s visitors remain depleted, but Ange Postecoglou will soon have to oversee an increase in results.
They stay in all cup competitions – thanks to Postecoglou’s saving grace – but Spurs’ return to five points from a possible 29 in their previous nine league outings can only be described as relegation form.

Everton Soon Dwight McNeil and James Garner will be available again, but the pair will miss Sunday with respective knee and back injuries.
Seamus Coleman is also suffering from muscle problems and is a doubt for the visit of Tottenham, while strikers Youssef Chermiti and Armando Broja have been sidelined. Dominic Calvert-Levine will be on top despite his lackluster performance in midweek. Moyes has Beto as an option.
Nathan Patterson could come in at right-back for Ashley Young, with Jasper Lindström also pushing for a start in attack.
Everton predicted lineup against Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Paterson, Tarkovsky, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Guye, Mars; Lindstrom, Doucoure, Ndiaye; Calvert-Levine.
Richarlison came off the bench in the derby after a few months out with a hamstring injury. Son Heung-min scored a goal on Wednesday But this season has been poor, and we could soon see the Brazilian emerge as a real option for Postecoglou on the left.
Ben Davies could return to the matchday squad on Sunday, but Spurs will have to stick with the same makeshift defense at Goodison Park. Brennan Johnson is suddenly doubtful with a calf injury.
Wilson Odobert, William Vicar, Christian Romero, Miki van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentanker and Timo Werner are injured.
Tottenham predicted lineup against Everton (4-3-3): Kinski; Poro, Dragusin, Gray, Spence; Bissouma, Bergvall, Maddison; Kulusevsky, Solanke, son.
Can both teams lose?
Moyes’ Everton will not be too dissimilar to Dyche’s iteration, and they will be a tough team to beat, especially at Goodison. Had Calvert-Lewin returned for his 2020/21 season opener the Toffees would have had a point on Wednesday and not the version that has since unfolded.
Spurs should enjoy control and territory here, but they have rarely proven themselves to be adept lock pickers against compact defences. Their points from set-pieces have not been as notable as last season, but the hosts will no doubt be aiming to dominate such situations on Sunday.
All results are on the table here, but the visitors can walk away with a much-needed three points.
