A long-awaited ceasefire between Hamas and Israel took effect on Sunday, followed by the first exchange of hostages and detainees between the two sides. The ceasefire and the process of releasing hostages and prisoners will continue for the next three months. This has already sparked discontent among far-right members of Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s government, with one minister resigning. But for now, the release of the first hostages was welcomed in Israel. FRANCE 24’s Oliver Farry spoke to Oliver McTernan, co-founder and director of Forward Thinking, a charity working on conflict resolution and mediation in the Middle East. He expressed his opinion on the prospects of maintaining a cease-fire in Gaza.
