Basic points

Start simple and calculate how many points a player on the field can score for your team.

Well, 1 point for under 60 minutes and 2 points for over 1 hour. Easy, right?

As they say, a winning team is built on a solid foundation of defence, goalkeepers and defenders that can bring in tons of points throughout the season.

A goalkeeper or defender is awarded 4 points if he keeps a clean sheet, while a midfielder is awarded 1 point if he keeps a clean sheet. In addition, the goalkeeper will receive an additional 1 point for every 3 shots he saves, and 5 points if he saves a penalty kick.

Essentially, goals and assists should play a large role in your thinking when choosing your squad and making transfers.

For every goal scored by your forward, you will receive 4 points. If your midfielder scores, you get 5 points; if your defender rarely scores, you get 6 points. If your goalkeeper somehow scores, that will bring up to 10 points.

Assists are simply 3 points, no matter which member of your team scores a point. Players will also receive an assist bonus if they win a free kick or a subsequent penalty kick.

FPL lost points

In FPL, you can also lose points on the pitch – and there are a lot of things going on. The most expensive penalty is a red card, which costs 3 points, while a yellow card costs 1 point.

If any of your players score an own goal or miss a penalty, -2 points will be added to your record, and for every two goals conceded by a goalkeeper or defender, be prepared to have -1 points recorded.

If all those points weren’t enough, the FPL also has a bonus points system that rewards three players for outstanding performances in each Premier League game.

The player with the highest score will receive 3 points, second place will receive 2 points, and third place will receive 1 point.

Bonus points are a key feature of FPL, but which players are best at earning them?

Unfortunately, if you leave a hat-trick player on the bench and all 11 players in your starting lineup are of some caliber, you can’t get those points on the pitch – unless, of course, You use a Bench Boost chip.

However, if a player in your starting lineup is injured and does not play, your chosen substitute will come on and score for you.

Deputy Manager Chip

The new assistant manager chip allows FPL bosses to use Premier League managers to earn them more points. The chip can be activated once from February 1st and will serve as your “assistant” manager for three consecutive games. However, they come at a price, with assistant coaches earning between £0.50 and £1.5m.

But how do the likes of Arteta, Guardiola and Slott score? Well, they get 6 points for a win, 3 points for a draw, 2 points for a clean sheet, and 1 point for every goal scored.

There are also attractive bonuses. If your chosen manager beats the top five teams in the Premier League table, you’ll receive a 10-point bonus for those who support managers outside of Europe.
