Heavyweight Jared Anderson (17-1, 15 KOs) faces Marios Collias (12-3-1, 10 KOs) at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York next month Impressive performance in the game. This is a game designed to rebuild Anderon’s confidence ahead of his final game on August 3rd.
Prisoner’s Nightmare
Top-ranked ‘Big Baby’ Anderson, 25, destroyed Martin Bakole Five rounds last August and he looked terrible in that fight. Jared was completely outplayed from the start and was knocked out in the first round. Had the knockout happened earlier, the fight would have been over in the first round, as Anderson looked gone after getting up.
Bakool was too powerful for Anderson. In the fifth round, he knocked down Anderson twice more and knocked his opponent down. It’s not even a sport. Promoter Bob Arum isn’t giving up on Jared, but you have to believe he will be giving up on him soon if he keeps acting like this.
If you were Arum, you’d have to consider dumping Anderson if he struggled against the little-known Kollias. This is a confidence-boosting fight for Jared, but if he looks bad here, Arum needs to get rid of him. He’s still young and needs to improve, but his ability to take punches, lack of strength, and timid fighting style make him unlikely to improve.
Anderson looked good throwing combinations and attacking weak prey, but he looked terrible against Bakool. The top heavyweights are old.
So once the old guy retires, Jared has a chance to win one of the belts, but it won’t be possible if he faces someone as strong as Bakole or even Zhang Zhilei. He’s 41 years old but still too dangerous for Anderson. If Arum can protect Jared long enough, he might be able to capture a belt at some point. He had to keep him away from anyone with power because he would be destroyed like he was with Bakool.
This isn’t the first time Anderson has shown a chin. He was injured in battles with Jerry Forrest and Charles Martin. These fights showed that Jared simply does not have what it takes to take on lower level fighters. He is too fragile. This is what I will do.
Arum still believes in Jared
Anderson Kollias will fight in a 10-round bout on the undercard of Denys Berinchyk vs. Keyshawn Davis on ESPN and ESPN+.
“I still believe Jared Anderson is one of the best heavyweights in the world and I expect him to make a comeback this year,” Arum said.
Keyshawn Davis is another one of Arum’s projects that he’s trying to turn into a star. However, he needs to be protected like Jared. He’s already had issues against Nassir Albright and Miguel Maduno.
Keyshawn was like a WWE wrestler against Madueno and the referee didn’t disqualify him for all the rough tactics he used in that match. Davis looked so hungry for victory that he emptied all the lockers and tried everything he could to prevent Maduno from knocking him out.
Andy Cruz defeated Keyshawn at the 2020 Olympics, easily defeating him in a lopsided final for the gold medal. Surprisingly, Arum chose to sign Keyshawn instead of Cruz after that loss. I guess he thought he could build him up with trash talk instead of the ability to fight.
