Fenerbahce held while Roma and Ajax suffered shocking defeats

Following the drama during the return of the Champions League this week, it was now the Europa League’s turn to round out the midweek action.

16 games were played throughout Thursday, with Besiktas’ 4-1 win over Athletic Club on Wednesday evening as a warm-up.

Two English clubs were in action, Manchester United Rangers and Tottenham traveling to Hoffenheim.

Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils scored a late winner to beat Rangers, meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou’s Lilywhites almost threw away a comfortable lead in Germany but managed to hold on for three big points.

Elsewhere, Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce took on Lyon, but could not find a way against their French opponents as they drew 0-0 at home.

Portuguese team Porto hosted Olympiakos, but lost 1–0 thanks to a 79th-minute goal from Ayoub Al Kaabi.

Roma AZ traveled to Alkmaar and like many others were on the receiving end of a shock result. The Italians lost 1–0 courtesy of former Tottenham man Troy Parrott scoring the only goal of the game.

Lazio clash with Real Sociedad. The hosts ran out 3-1 winners and Sociedad sent off Eyen Munoz in the first half, making the tie a difficult one to move on from.

And Ajax were on the end of a shock result, losing 1-0 away to RFS.

That wasn’t the end of the action, with dozens more goals flying around the field on an excellent night of European football.
