Writer and filmmaker David Lynch, whose credits include “Mulholland Drive” and “Twin Peaks,” has died aged 78.
Lynch’s death was announced by his family on his Facebook page.
“He is no longer with us and there is a huge hole in the world,” the post read.
“But, as he said, ‘Focus on the donut, not the hole.’ … It was a beautiful day, with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way.”
Lynch received three Best Director Oscar nominations during his career for “Blue Velvet,” “The Elephant Man” and “Mulholland Drive.”
His last major project was Twin Peaks: The Return, which aired in 2017 and was a continuation of the show that ran for two seasons in the early 1990s.
Lynch Revealed in August last year He was battling emphysema, a chronic lung disease caused by “years of smoking.”
The director said that despite the diagnosis, he is still in “excellent shape” and will “never retire.”
