When is the deadline?

The deadline is actually Monday, February 3, 2025. The English window closes at 11pm UK time.

When does the winter window close across Europe?

The transfer windows for most of Europe’s major leagues – including France (1pm GMT), Germany, Scotland and Spain – will also be closed Monday, February 3, 2025 Although the times vary.

Can clubs sign players outside the transfer window?

Signings are usually announced outside the transfer window, but players will not be able to register to play for their new team until the window opens.

What about free agency?

Free agents can sign with a team at any time because they are not under contract with another club.

If a player becomes a free agent in early July, they can agree to move to a foreign club but will not officially become their player until the end of their contract.

How many players can a club loan out?

The Premier League handbook details that Premier League clubs may not register more than two loan players at the same time.

A club can register up to four players on loan in the same season, and a club cannot loan more than one player from the same club at the same time.

Premier League clubs cannot loan players they acquired during the same transfer window to another Premier League club.

A Premier League club may not loan more than one goalkeeper to another Premier League club.

EFL rules allow clubs to loan players more freely, but up to five players can be named in the matchday squad.

No club in the Championship, League One or League Two may loan more than four players on temporary loan from another club in any season, and no more than two of them may be over 23 years old (the cut-off date for determining player ages) is June 30th before the loan season).

Any loan that later becomes a permanent transfer does not count towards the club’s quota.

EFL clubs can provide emergency loans if all professional goalkeepers are unavailable due to injury, suspension or international call-up.
