Gareth Taylor responds to Caroline’s Man City transfer links

Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor refused to be drawn into links to the North Carolina Courage forward Caroline at his latest media conference.

The former WSL winners moved quickly to sign Rebecca Nack from Swedish side FC Rosengard earlier this month, adding defensive reinforcements to cover for the injured Alex Greenwood.

Taylor is also facing problems in the forward areas, with Khadijah Shaw and Lauren Hamp sidelined. With the amount of injuries threatening to derail their season, the city The boss insists he is doing all he can this month to ensure the team can stay competitive for the rest of the campaign.

“There is no update (on the transfer),” Taylor told reporters ahead of the Manchester derby. “It’s really hard to give you any news when so many wheels are still turning.

“We’ve been working very hard behind the scenes to try and help and support the squad a bit more. Losing three key players, Alex (Greenwood), Lauren (Hamp) and Bunny (show to injury), is difficult for any team.

“We are trying to get that necessary support but we are working in a difficult window. But there is still some time left.”

One of the names that has been linked in recent days is Brazil international Caroline. Her former club, the North Carolina Courage, confirmed earlier this week that the 25-year-old intends to pursue free agency now that she is out of contract.

When asked about the Caroline rumours, he said, “It’s difficult for me to comment on a player who is not officially ours. “At this moment, I have no comment to make.

“I know there’s a lot of speculation, but we like to do things the right way.”

Caroline was named the NWSL’s MVP for 2023 but struggled for form last season due to injury problems. Reports indicate a number of clubs including Armory And Paris Saint-Germain have shown an interest in the player but City’s deal appears to have fallen through.

On what the potential arrival of out-of-contract Chloe Kelly could mean in the summer, Taylor added: “We have a great history together. When he’s here, he’s like every other player.

“She’s considered, she’s valued and whether she plays or not, it’s part of what we’re doing. Anything beyond that is really hard for me to predict.”
