Gavi and Yamal strikes lead Player Rating Catalans to Supercopa final

Barcelona are in the final of the Supercopa de España, having done enough to beat Athletic Club by a 2-0 score-line in their semi-final tie in Saudi Arabia.

Hansi Flick’s side have endured a win-less run in La Liga since the start of December, but returned to action in 2025 with a Copa del Rey victory over lower league Barbastro at the weekend and now enjoy a statement win against Athletic Club.

Gavi broke the deadlock during the opening quarter of the game in Jeddah City, tapping in Alejandro Balde’s cutback to complete a fine team goal.

Although both sides had more chances, Lamine Yamal doubled Barcelona’s lead in the early stages of the second half. The teenager expertly took a pass from Gavi on the turn, before slotting past Unai Simeone at the near post.

Athletic Club twice had the ball in the net late on, first by substitute Oscar de Marcos and then by captain Inaki Williams, but both efforts were ruled out for offside.

The Catalans will face either Real Madrid or Mallorca in Sunday’s final.
