Gaza and Israel react to ceasefire and hostage release deal

Israel and Hamas have reached a ceasefire and hostage release agreement, which will be implemented on January 19.

The long-awaited deal aims to end the 15-month war.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked southern Israel, killing approximately 1,200 people, kidnapping 251 people, and taking them back to Gaza as hostages.

The attack triggered a major Israeli offensive in Gaza that killed more than 46,000 Palestinians, according to the Hamas health ministry.

The people of Gaza and Israel have made their feelings known and a ceasefire and hostage agreement have now been reached.
