“Everything was fine until Rahul Dravid” – Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh, while speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, wondered about Indian cricket’s success at highs after a successful period under the leadership of Rahul Dravid. Something suddenly went wrong during Gautam Gambhir’s tenure.
“Everything was fine until Rahul Dravid came. India won the (T20) World Cup and everything was fine. But what happened suddenly?” Harbhajan asked.
“In the last six months we’ve lost to Sri Lanka, a series of whitewashes against New Zealand and now a 3-1 loss to Australia. Everything seems to be falling apart,” he noted.
India won the 2024 T20 World Cup with Rahul Dravid as head coach. This was also Dravid’s last term as the team’s head coach, and he left the team in a high mood. Under Dravid’s leadership, India also reached the 2023 ODI World Cup final, but unfortunately lost to Australia.
Harbhajan Singh asks India to ‘give up superstar attitude’
Harbhajan Singh further said in the video that he requested the selectors not to select the team based on reputation but to focus on the performance of the players. He also questioned the decision to not give opportunities to players like Abhimanyu Iswaran and Sarfaraz Khan in the Test series against Australia.
“Every player has a reputation. If so, add Kapil Dev, Anil Kumbleor those who have been India’s biggest match winners. BCCI and selectors should dominate. India should ditch the superstar attitude,” Harbhajan said.
“Abhimanyu Easwaran was taken on tour but he did not play. If given a chance, he can become an Indian player. Same goes for Sarfaraz. Players who perform well should go to (England) ). You shouldn’t choose a player’s reputation,” he claimed.
Abhimanyu Easwaran could have been available for the first Test when Rohit Sharma was absent, but India preferred to play KL Rahul. Rahul performed well in the match and consolidated his top spot.
Will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli exit Tests?

Both players are superstars of Indian cricket and it will not be easy for the selectors to drop them. Despite their poor performances in the series, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma haven’t shown any signs of retiring.
India’s next Test series will be played on the tour of England in June. It remains to be seen if Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be available for the series or if the selectors will take a harsh decision.
