Tyrrell Hatton won the 2025 Dubai Desert Classic and Rory McIlroy fought back to finish fourth on Sunday’s dramatic final day.
Hatton, who is likely to be part of Team Europe’s Ryder Cup squad later this year, continued his strong performance in last week’s Team Cup to claim his first Rolex Series title since 2021.
The 33-year-old overturned a one-shot deficit on leader Daniel Hillier to win the tournament in thrilling fashion at 15 under.
“It feels great. I said earlier in the week, this is one of those events you want to have on your resume. It’s a signature event on the DP World Tour,” Hatton said.
“It’s a dream come true to add my name to the amazing list of champions that are in front of me.”
McIlroy failed to repeat last year’s heroics of winning from 10 shots behind and ended up tied for fourth behind Hatton, Hillier and Lauri Kanter.
McIlroy ended 2024 strong and won the Dubai Desert Classic a record four times (including the past two years), but a poor opening two days proved costly.
He shot a 6-under 66 on Sunday, three strokes better than his next round best of the week and good enough to move from 12th to fourth.
