Ian Healy issues serious warning for Australia after BCCI issues strict guidelines

Former Australian national cricket team player Ian Healy spoke about the steps taken by the BCCI to regulate cricket in India. He said the way they introduced the guidelines meant they admitted they had allowed discipline to disappear from the team.

The Indian national cricket team has been making headlines over the past few weeks. This follows reports of irregularities during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Head coach Gautam Gambhir reported the same to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

BCCI issues guidelines to players, says all players should be ready for domestic cricket

The BCCI has since issued guidelines for players and taken some strong measures. They issued 10-point guidelines according to which all players should be ready for domestic cricket and must “remain on the field during scheduled practice sessions and travel together to and from the playing venue”.

Apart from this, the BCCI has also placed restrictions on the time players can spend with their families during the tour. Players’ families are only allowed during the current two weeks of the 45-day tour.

The Indian cricket authorities have reacted harshly and admittedly that they had committed serious breaches of national team discipline – Ian Healy

As BCCI rolls out guidelines, former Australian cricketer Ian Healy calls it a reinvention of Indian cricket. He said this was a stern response from the governing body to player infractions. He explained in an interview with SEN Radio:

“The reinvention of Indian cricket. The Indian cricket authorities have reacted harshly and strongly, admitting that they have allowed discipline in the national team to seriously deteriorate.”

Australia – and other countries – be aware of how far things can go off the rails without noticing the impact. ——Ian Healy

Ian Healy, who played 119 Tests and 168 ODIs for Australia between 1988 and 1999, said other cricket boards should be alert and take note of what is happening. He elaborated:

“The following issues may not be approved for a long time, which is worth reading. Perhaps managers and players do not respect the dream of representing the powerhouse of the sport.

“Australia – and others – please be aware of how far things can go off the rails without noticing the impact. Stay vigilant. Keep all of this in the game.”

The BCCI also said that all players will now have to travel with the team. Earlier, some senior cricketers were also traveling to and from the stadium in private vehicles, which the BCCI’s operations team will arrange with the help of the national unit.

The BCCI has also banned personal managers or assistants of players and support staff from staying at team hotels. In addition, no player is allowed to bring a chef or hairstylist to the tour.
