
Gerwyn Price started his record-breaking fifth championship at the International Darts Open in Saturday’s defeat of Mike de Decker, as Luke Humphries also won in Riesa.
On the second day of the £175,000 event, the second round took place at two meetings at the WT Energiesteme Arena, with the price winning by a high-quality event against De Decker.
The Welshman won four of his eight European Tours in the competition, although he was forced to beat the above from the average of the World Grand Prix champions before finishing with a 6-4 victory.
Price declared: “I love the German crowd, I love playing in Riesa.
“Things will happen to me when I get support like I am here, and hopefully tomorrow will be a five-time champion!”
Price’s reward for beating De Decker is with Nathan Aspinallhe opened up the back-to-back European Tour champion with a 6-1 devaluation of Joe Cullen.
“I feel good. I feel confident,” Aspinal insisted that he won every meeting against the former masters in the first seven games.
“I’ve been saying all week that I’m going to be back-to-back (on the European Tour) and I’m really looking forward to playing Gezzy now.”
Price and Aspinall will join the world’s number one in the last 16 times Humphreyshe started his campaign with a 6-1 win over Dirk van Duijvenbode.
The 30-year-old ignored the dispatch of the Dutch, an average of 99, landed five 180s and converted six of his ten attempts to limit the excellent display.
