Is the stock market open or closed on MLK Day 2025? See holiday calendar


US stock markets will be closed on Monday, January 20, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

President Ronald Reagan signed the King Holiday Bill on November 2, 1983, designating the third Monday in January as a federal holiday in observance of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., according to the National Museum of African American History. and Culture

The Nasdaq i New York Stock Exchange both will be closed on the federal holiday, but will reopen for regular business hours on Tuesday, January 21.

U.S. bond markets will also be closed on Jan. 20, according to the Securities and Exchange Industry Association. Bond markets will also reopen on January 21.

After MLK Day, it will be business as usual on Wall Street until Monday, February 17, when the stock and bond markets will be closed in honor of President’s Day.

US stock markets will be closed on the following days in 2025:

  • Presidents Day: Monday, February 17

  • Good Friday: Friday April 18

  • Memorial Day: Monday, May 26

  • Juneteenth: Thursday June 19

  • Independence Day: Friday, July 4th (markets will also close at 1:00pm ET on July 3rd)

  • Labor Day: Monday, September 1

  • Thanksgiving: Thursday, November 27 (markets will also close at 1:00 PM ET on November 28)

  • Christmas: Thursday, December 25th (markets will also close at 1:00pm ET on December 24th)
