Jamie Vardy has no plans to withdraw from football, and his future at Leicester City will be decided before the end of the season.
Vardy’s current contract expires in two months, but the striker has a close relationship with Leicester’s boss, with whom he has been in conversation.
Vardy is still very ambitious and still wants to play the top game and achieve even more in football, and although he is thought to have a choice in other Premier League clubs, he has a love for Leicester and enjoys an emotional appeal at the club.
He still has the potential to sign a new contract at King Power Stadium and play his 14th season in the East Midlands – even if (it looks likely now) that means he will be in the championship next season.
Vardy still believes that he still has a lot to offer at the elite level.
On a struggling team, the 38-year-old has contributed eight goals and three assists in 29 appearances. He was involved in 10 of Leicester’s 25 goals in the Premier League.
Statistics show that he averaged 96,000 times per game – a comparable distance to his last five seasons in the top division (average of 9.8k), although his expected goal (XG) is lower than before.
Leicester fans organized a pre-match show with Vardy at the end of last season, fearing it might be his last game at the club, and had a tribute video on social media and supported it in the stands.
He went on to sign a one-year extension last June after Leicester was promoted to the top division.
