The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced new 10-point guidelines after India lost 1-3 in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series. It is worth noting that family members can accompany players on tour for up to 14 days if the tour lasts at least 45 days.
BCCI’s latest guidelines also ask players to travel in groups
The guidance also requires players to travel together, stay in the same hotel and attend domestic cricket matches where possible. These measures have resulted in the majority of contracted players participating in domestic competitions. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar recently discussed the new rules.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, Indian players have been allowed to keep their families with them throughout the tour. Some players are choosing to spend time with their families instead of attending informal team meetings and planning sessions.
It’s great to be able to take the family on tour – Jos Buttler

“There’s a lot of cricket being played and people are away from home for a lot of time and I think all of that has been highlighted post-Covid. Of course I don’t think it’s had much of an impact on cricket.”
“I think it’s something that’s very manageable. Personally, from my perspective, I think it’s really important to try and share that with your family and ease the burden of being away from home,” he explained.
England will be in India until February 12 before they travel to Pakistan for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The tournament will begin on February 19, with England taking on Australia in their first match in Lahore on February 22.
