Kane Williamson snubbed; David Warner, Daryl Mitchell and Mark Chapman join platinum ranks

New Zealand’s ace batsman Kane Williamson faced another embarrassment in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 draft on January 13. The former New Zealand captain failed to find any takers in the platinum category in the PSL 2025 draft after going unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

The PSL 2025 draft, held in Lahore on January 13, selected 10 players from the Platinum category, but Kane Williamson failed to attract any bids. The Black Caps legend is in excellent form with the bat and is currently playing in the SA20 2025 tournament in South Africa.

Kane Williamson unsold in PSL 2025 draft after IPL 2025 auction snub

The right-handed batsman is currently playing for Durban Super Giants and started the season with a stunning 60 off 40 balls in SA20 2025, but it was not enough to convince the owners of the Pakistan Super League franchise. He showed confidence in him.

Kane Williamson is known for his technical brilliance in Tests and ODIs, but his approach and low strike rate have often been questioned in the fast-paced world of T20 cricket. His difficulty adapting to the aggressive demands of a franchise league may have affected his appeal around the league.

Health issues were also a big reason for his declining value in the cricketing world. The 34-year-old has been battling multiple injuries and even missed T20I cricket throughout 2023. Williamson will only play two games between 2022 and 2024.

Meanwhile, American wicketkeeper-batsman Andries Gous signed with Islamabad United, becoming the second American player to play in PSL history after fast bowler Ali Khan. Well, Lahore Qalandars have used the match-right card for Tayyab Tahir in the PSL 2025 Player Draft.

On the other hand, Peshawar Zalmi also used their matching rights card in the draft for Tom Kohler-Cadmore. Former Australia opener David Warner, who also went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, will make his debut in the Pakistan Super League after being picked up by Karachi Kings.
