Mbappe’s explosive goal on Saturday night ended his run of eight goals in the past five games.
Kylian Mbappe scored his first hat-trick for Real Madrid as the La Liga champions eased to a 3-0 win over bottom-placed Real Valladolid to extend their lead at the top of the table.
Real Madrid opened the scoring in the 30th minute on Saturday when Kylian Mbappe played a beautiful one-two with Jude Bellingham, sprinting into the penalty area to receive the Englishman’s pass, beating the offside trap and then gleefully Shot past goalkeeper Karl Hein.
In the 56th minute, he expanded the lead in a quick counterattack, broke through the left wing to receive Rodrigo’s pass, and then shot low inside the far post.
In stoppage time, Mario Martin was sent off for a tackle on Bellingham in the penalty area, and 26-year-old Mbappe sealed the victory with a penalty kick.
Real Madrid top the La Liga table with 49 points, four ahead of second-placed Atletico Madrid, who dropped two points in a 1-1 home draw with Villarreal earlier on Saturday. Followed by Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao, both with 39 points and one game less.
“Happy for the hat-trick but more happy for the win, I say this every week, but today it was important to win after the draw at Atletico,” Mbappe told Real Madrid TV.
“We had to play well and we scored the first goal in a collective move. We could have played better in the second half but we scored the second goal, managed it well and scored the third ball.”
It wasn’t the most inspiring performance from Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who struggled to create many scoring chances despite dominating the attack with nearly 70 per cent of possession, finishing with just four shots on target.
With Vinicius out through suspension after picking up a red card against Valencia, Real once again relied on Kylian Mbappe to score on a cold night.
The France superstar had an inconsistent first few months after joining Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, but has returned to devastating form in recent weeks, scoring 15 times in La Liga and across all competitions Scored 21 goals.
Following his brace against Las Palmas last week and his hat-trick on Saturday, Mbappe is now second on the La Liga scoring charts, one goal behind Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski.
